Detroit band, Robert Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise, had a strong start with a few great albums. I really thought they’d gain some national traction. Their album ‘Time To Discover’ even included guest vocals by Kid Rock.
Formed in 1994 after former members of the band Second Self – guitarist Michael Nehra, bassist Andrew Nehra, and drummer Jeff Fowlkes – overheard Robert Bradley, a blind street performer, ‘busking’ in Detroit’s Eastern Market. After listening to Bradley sing for an hour, they invited him up to the studio to record some acoustic songs, then asked him to become their vocalist.
After the group released their last album in 2008, Bradley decided to move back to Alabama where he ran a business filling vending machines. After that adventure got derailed by a hernia operation, he decided to return to Detroit. ‘This is where I need to be to make music.’ In 2017 he recorded ‘Down In The Bend’.
